Alex Elias 1. Jack Nicklaus congratulated Matt Fitzpatrick saying, "One of the great rounds of golf I have ever seen on final day of @usopengolf ! He had the pressure on him, having never won in the United States, and came through in flying colors! That shot @MattFitz94 played out of the fairway bunker on 18 was one of the great iron shots under pressure I’ve ever seen. @usopengolf @usga " In a performance that'll never be forgotten, Fitzpatrick hit 17 of 18 greens in The Final Round. In speaking of his approach shot from the fairway bunker on No. 18, Fitzpatrick said, "One of the best shots I ever hit." 2. As Matt Fitzpatrick, Will Zalatoris, Scottie Scheffler, and others delivered a leaderboard yielding one of the greatest final rounds in U.S. Open history, The Country Club was just as much in the spotlight as the competitors for the entirety of the championship. Rory McIlroy said, "I thought it’s a really good track, and I’d love to see it come back here." "I thought it was the best place I’ve played in a while." - Collin Morikawa "The Country Club is spectacular. It’s my favorite US Open venue I’ve ever played." - Keegan Bradley "It better not be another 34 years until we go back to Brookline. What a place." - Dan Rapaport "What a course." - Justin Rose "This place is an incredible venue. Such a great mix of holes" - Smylie Kaufman "Never played The Country Club before a few weeks ago but I’d have to say it’s quickly become a top five personal favorite course." - Stewart Cink 3. Collectively, the top five ranked players in The Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR): 1. Scottie Scheffler, 2. Rory McIlroy, 3. Jon Rahm, 4. Collin Morikawa, and 5. Justin Thomas have recorded:
When the game's best have descended on the majors, featuring the strongest fields in golf and some of the most difficult course set-ups, Scheffler, McIlroy, Rahm, Morikawa and Thomas have continuously delivered superb play. 4. "This one, in particular, hurts pretty hard," said Will Zalatoris, who has now recorded six Top-10 finishes in nine major starts. Zalatoris continued, "I'm three shots away from practically being a -- having a chance of being a three-time major champion. A bounce here or there." 5. Coming off a T5 finish at the Memorial Tournament, Denny McCarthy recorded a T7 finish at The U.S. Open. Notably, at Muirfield Village, McCarthy recorded rounds of 68-69-73-72, while at The Country Club, McCarthy battled back on the weekend to record rounds of 68-68, following a 73 and 70 in Round 1 and 2. With two rounds of 68 on the weekend, McCarthy turned the tables on a recent trend of somewhat fading in Rounds 3 and 4 over his last four tournaments. Following The U.S. Open, McCarthy now has four Top-10s and is ranked 42nd in The FedExCup Standings.
McCarthy said, "Man, I was seeing shots so well, really committed. No doubts at all really. I was really comfortable with where my swing and game is and really committed with the clubs I was picking and the shots I was seeing. Just really proud of how I committed to all those shots and executed a lot of them. So, this is a huge step in the right direction for me."

Alex Elias Club History: As one of the five charter members that founded the United States Golf Association, The Country Club has hosted 16 national championships, most notably including The 1913 U.S. Open, won by amateur Francis Ouimet and The 1999 Ryder Cup that featured the U.S.'s dramatic and historic Sunday comeback. In speaking of the 1913 U.S. Open, Jon Rahm said, "I like to think of myself as a bit of a historian of the game, and to come to a place like this where the whole Francis Ouimet world happened is very unique." As Rahm commented on the 1913 U.S. Open, Brad Faxon adamantly said, "It is not an overstatement to say Justin Leonard's putt is most important putt in U.S. Ryder Cup history and U.S. golf history," in speaking of The '99 Ryder Cup. Championship Field: Coming off the heels of a week in which Justin Thomas, Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, and more were in the field at The RBC Canadian Open, while Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson, and other former PGA Tour players were in the field at the inaugural LIV event, the game's best from both The PGA Tour and The LIV Tour have descended on The Country Club for the 122nd United States Open Championship. Not since 2013 has TCC hosted a USGA event, and in 2013, when the U.S. Amateur was contested, Matthew Fitzpatrick won against a field that included Justin Thomas, Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau, Xander Schauffele, Will Zalatoris, Max Homa, Corey Connors, Cameron Young, Talor Gooch, Harry Higgs, Denny McCarthy, Beau Hossler, Wyndham Clark, and Patrick Rodgers. In addition to the 15 players that competed in The 2013 U.S. Am, Phil Mickelson, Sergio Garcia and Lee Westwood competed in the '99 Ryder Cup. With that said, The 2022 U.S. Open will be played on a composite course that includes 15 holes from the Main Course and 3 holes from the Primrose. The short 12th hole, known as “the Redan” will be used in an Open for the first time since 1913, therefore not one player has played a competitive tournament round on the 2022 composite course.
